CGA Hall of Heroes 2018

National Coast Guard Museum Association Joins Hall of Heroes Event

The 2018 Hall of Heroes Induction Ceremony featured new elements to commemorate the three Academy Alumni. Each honoree was paired with a First Class Cadet, who got to know them over the course of the semester in order to provide a personal introduction of their respective honoree prior to their induction. 2/c Molly Jones was paired with VADM Robert T. Nelson ‘78, 2/c Amy Chamberlin with Mr. Douglas A. Hlousek ’60 and 2/c Quinn Levy with LT. CDR Mark A. Feldman, Sr. ‘79.

A new partnership with the National Coast Guard Museum Association added a featured speaker to the program. ADM James M. Loy, USCG (Ret.) ’64, who serves on the Museum Association Board of Directors, spoke about character in action finding appropriate source material in the Letter of Instruction from Alexander Hamilton sent on June 4th, 1791 to each new Master of the first ten Revenue Cutters. To bring the letter to life, the Museum Association compiled a video of first year Ensigns on the field as well as some current First Class Cadets. The video can be seen at coastguardmuseum.org/hallofheroes.

Another innovation closed out the day’s events. A dinner attended by friends and family of the honorees was sponsored by the Museum Association and held at the Alumni Center.
